If You Don’t Do It, Who Will?
What’s your dream job? What’s your dream business? Now, since it’s your dream job or dream business, I can only guess it’s something worthwhile. It’s probably something highly competitive. So if you didn’t do it, somebody else inevitably will do it. If you were a companies #1 choice to fill a posistion and you got hit by a bus, it probably wouldn’t be that big of a deal for that organization to say, “oh that’s terrible she got hit by a bus, but who was our #2 choice?”. And the world would go on. Sure, your friends and family would be impacted but probably not so much the world itself. I’m not sayithing this to be a downer or depressing…. you’ll see my point soon I promise!
With the above senerio in mind, think about this question; Whatever your dream job, carreer or business, isn’t here enough? Isn’t there enough writers or wanna-be writers? Isn’t there enough musicians? Is the world short on people who want to be a proffessional soccer or football or basketball players? Asking yourself this isn’t to stop you from pursuing your dreams, but to give you the honest reality that what you want to do or be, probably is only for your own agenda right? It’s probably for your own satisfaction or wallet. I’m not here to reprimand you for having “bad motives” but to suggest that they could be coupled with something more.
Instead of pursuing your dream only for yourself, why not pursue it for the betterment of others too? What would make you different and irreplaceable if you got hit by a bus? Instead of being just another candidate, nurse or business person, why not be one with a positive twist? What would make you special? ie. Instead of being an investment banker, choose to be an investment banker with uncompromising integrity. Instead of being just a musician, choose to be a musician with intentions to help the underprivileged with your success.
Whatever your dream is, you can always personalize it with something that will not only make you satisfied and wealthy, but also make the world a better place. And that certainly is irreplaceable nowa days! Living and pursuing with this kind of conviction is most certainly a recipe for success in any calling!
